The South Dakota 4-H Foundation Board of Directors has initiated a five million dollar endowment campaign to secure current and planned gifts to ensure and strengthen the programs of 4-H for generations to come.

For nearly a century, South Dakota 4-H has been quick to respond to the potentials and needs for youth development. 4-H programs today may be significantly different than they were forty or fifty years ago, but today’s 4-H is still as critical and relevant to youth development as when it began. That mission has not changed over time.

Tens of thousands of South Dakota residents’ lives have been shaped by 4-H. Career success, family strength and flourishing communities are all tangible results of lives guided and shaped by 4-H. Today’s children and youth are receiving this same guidance.

The geographical distribution of South Dakota’s 4-H membership has shifted through the years. What was once a farm/rural-oriented program now serves many youth living in urban areas. In fact, 79% of enrolled South Dakota 4-H members now reside in towns and cities.

The SD 4-H Foundation, through the successful fulfillment of the $5 million “Our Kids, Our Future” campaign, will be better able to support 4-H across the state in both our rural areas and in our towns and cities through the annual earnings gained by the endowment fund established as a result of the campaign.
